Climatic conditions

Montréal in June is usually graced with mild weather. Regular seasonal temperatures can range between 12 and 23 degrees Celsius; however the advent of bad weather is always a possibility. We highly recommend you bring garments suitable for any weather condition. A surprising fact about Montreal is that even though it is considered a Nordic country because of its rigorous winters, it is actually at the same latitude as Milan, (Italy).

Transportation from the airport

There are two ways to get from the airport to downtown:

Express bus 747 the conference venue is located at the last stop “Berri-UQAM” or “Gare d’autocars de Montréal”

Bus and Metro

Bixi:  Temporary bicycle rental, run by the city of Montréal, to borrow a bicycle to go from one part of the city to another.  Bixi pass: $5 a day for an unlimited 45 minute jaunts around the city. See: Bixi Web site. Rental duration can be extended for a minimal fee.


The dollar is the official Canadian currency. Divided into 100 cents, there are 1 (Loonies) and 2 (Toonies) dollars are available into coins; 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 dollar bills.


French language is Québec’s official language. However, English language is also widely spoken. Over 20% of the population speak three languages, with affiliations to more than 80 different cultural groups.


On May 31, 2006, an anti-tobacco law was proclaimed, prohibiting smoking in all public establishments, including bars and restaurants.


5% Federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) charged on goods and services.

8.5% Québec provincial tax (TVQ) added to goods and services purchased in the province.

Montréal switches to Eastern Daylight Time (summer time zone) on the second Sunday of March. The time difference between Montréal time and Greenwich Mean Time is 4 hours in the summer.
